Dear Sir or Madam,
It is my great pleasure to announce the official launching of the Moldovan Reference Database, hosted by Södertörn University College Library, Sweden. The database is located at http://bibl.sh.se/moldova/
Information on the Republic of Moldova, and its geographical predecessors, often seems scarce. It is a fact that many university libraries do not hold more than a few titles on Moldova, which makes information gathering an arduous task for a student of the state. While this earlier was a reflection of the number of articles written for a Western audience, it is not the case today. The interest in Moldova among researchers, practitioners and the public at large has greatly increased over the latest years resulting in a vastly expanded material. Thus information on Moldova can no longer be said to be limited, but the problem of locating information still remains.
The Moldovan Reference Database is built in order to provide an easier introduction to the Republic of Moldova and contains references to journal articles, books and reports, which in some way deal with the country. Most of the articles are written in English, German or any of the Nordic languages, but there are also posts in Moldovan/Romanian and Russian, and sorted according to subcategories to provide for easier browsing of titles. More information about the database can be found at http://bibl.sh.se/moldova/ under “About the Moldova Reference Database”.
Feel free to forward this information to anyone you think would be interested.
Please report any omissions in the material to andreas.johansson(at)sh.se
The compilation of the database was funded by a grant from the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies.
Best regards
Andreas Johansson
