Could you explain the meaning of some songs by Gandul Matei such as Nae and Moldavian dance (Ostropaz)?
what is Nicu singing about?

i am trying to understand, but there are too many unknown words!

Well, there is a lot of cultural language involved there. Its like someone can translate what he's saying but a lot of the meaning is just lost thru the translation because its so culturally relative. I don't remember the lyrics though too well :)

Ok, I do understand some words because I have been studying italian which also belongs to the romanian group of language. But what means for example, "adaverat" and "coi" or "coae"? and "shtie"? :)

well, it's a bit funny to tell you the meaning of the song "Nae", especially in English, but i'll try to do that, because I see that you are really interested. :)))

Nae is a guy who went to the Second World War and lost there one of his testicles (that's the meaning of the word "coi"; "coaie" is the plural)... After that he goes to the War Ministry, and asks them to give him what he had lost... The ministry sends him to his "origin"... And "that's all, folks", as far as I remember:)

"Da, e adevarat" means "yep, it's true"
"a shti"= "to know" ("shtie" is the 3rd person, singular form= "he/she/it knows").

Actually, "Nae" is a student folklore song, that's why it contains some slang words :)

Last Saturday I was at the concert of Gandul Matei and that's why I got interested into the lyrics, which I couldn't understand. :)
And now I've becoming more and more interested in the culture, language etc. of your republic. ) Hope to visit Moldova next year since I'll have to drive through to Hungary.

Moldova is the name of the country and the language we speak is Romanian.

Russian music is quiet popular in our country, because here are a lot of Russian TV and radio stations. As for me, I accept only some of your 'rock' bands: "No4nye Snaipery", "Zemfira", "Spleen", "Suroganova i Orkestr" etc.

Moldavian=Romanian, but wasn't Moldavian a little bit influenced by turkish? or I am mistaken? ;)

There is no such a language as Moldovan. People from the Republic of Moldova and from Romania speak the same language. There are some few Turkish words, but in Romanian.

Very many people from Moldova know Russian, as they were born in Soviet times, and some other reasons which maybe somebody else would like to explain to you.

Russification continues
1/3 of the population are russian speakers, many of which do not wish to learn romanian. They want us to learn russian for them so that they would feel "more comfortable" here.
They don't speak romanian with us (the majority of russians - 99%) , they want us to speak russian for them.
Russians are not welcome here. Everybody hates them.

well, u were already explained bout Nae....yeah, it's of a guy who lost his balls and is lookin for'em.

Hostropat is a nice song i also love. It's about describing somehow our country, or better say the vices that exist here: corruption, faithless, hatred, etc.
